Woodland Front Yard Landscape

Tucked into a thriving peri-urban landscape, this charming home backs up to a naturally forested stream buffer where wildlife flourishes just beyond the backyard. Our clients—both working full time and hosting a successful Airbnb in their ground-floor unit—sought thoughtful design solutions for the front yard that would balance function, beauty, and ecological care. Their goals included creating an additional parking space and reimagining the front entry as a warm, welcoming arrival experience.  The new parking area is softened by a generous border of edible shrubs and fruiting trees, while native perennials spill gracefully around a trio of colorful statement planters.  Stormwater management was carefully integrated throughout the design, reducing runoff volume through porous paving and by watering plants that support local ecosystems.  A simple recirculating boulder fountain adds gentle, ambient sound while doubling as a drinking source for wildlife—including the clients’ beloved schnauzer pup. Stacked wood walls provide a bold architectural gesture and quietly invite birds and beneficial critters to nest and shelter within this modern woodland retreat. Our clients’ trust, curiosity, and deep passion for nature made this project an especially rewarding collaboration.
