How to Save Money

PLANNING PHASE

SOIL SAMPLES

Take your own soil sample.

Supplies you will need:

  • Gallon Zip-lock Bags
  • Sharpie Marker (to label samples)

Send soil samples to the University of Delaware.

DESIGN PHASE

KNOWING WHAT YOU WANT

Carefully read and fill out the Client Interview provided on this site.  This questionnaire will help you save time and money. If you invest time in understanding what you really want and need, it will make for a wildly design successful experience.

IMPLEMENTATION PHASE

INSTALL SMALL MATERIALS

Smaller plant materials will eventually grow. This is a great way to save money up front. I always try to guide my clients to install larger shrubs and smaller perennials, since perennials mature quickly.

MAINTENANCE PHASE

LEARN ABOUT WEEDS

There are great guides out there that will help you understand everything you want to know about weeds.  It is important to understand their life cycles, how to identify weeds quickly, and the appropriate removal method.

UNDERSTAND WHAT HAVING A PERFECT LAWN MEANS

Perfect lawns do not exist in nature.  A perfect lawn is what we call a mono-culture meaning, that they are the sole species growing in a given area.  These kinds of eco-systems are typically low in diversity and require incredible amount of human resources to maintain.  Perfect lawns require the use of herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, as well as additional water with routine mowing.
