Small • In the Ground
This garden began with strong bones—a beautifully crafted brick wall—but our clients felt the space read as heavy and imposing rather than intimate. Our goal was to soften the visual weight of the wall while refreshing the garden. We leaned into the wall’s character, drawing attention to its subtle window-like relief detailing by introducing an elevated planter that runs along its base. This new element not only highlights the masonry but also doubles as informal seating, encouraging guests to gather and linger. Lush plantings spill over the planter edge, further breaking down the scale of the wall and adding movement and softness. Two broad steps extend the full length of the patio drawing the eye and creating a natural flow through the garden, offering generous space for hosting friends while still leaving room for their active pup to run, explore, and play.

Inspired by this Hardscape?
Sometimes the right landscape design doesn't replace existing features—it reimagines them. Thoughtful planting and hardscape details can soften architectural elements, create inviting gathering spaces, and make your outdoor space feel more comfortable for family, friends, and pets.
