Large • In the Ground
This project was driven by a desire to fully embrace outdoor living—rain or shine, Spring through Fall. Our clients envisioned a flexible landscape that could support both everyday relaxation and large-scale entertaining, a natural extension of their professional and social lives. With a one-story addition completed 15 years prior, it was essential that the new design felt seamless, intentional, and deeply connected to the home’s existing architecture. To meet these goals, we collaborated with StruXure to design a custom, two-tier louvered pergola system. The operable louvers allow the space to adapt effortlessly to changing weather conditions, offering shade, sun, or full protection from rain as needed. An integrated internal drainage system discreetly channels water into surrounding planting beds, turning a functional necessity into a thoughtful design feature. Beneath the pergola, the outdoor program unfolds into clearly defined yet cohesive zones: a generous dining area for hosting, a comfortable lounging space centered around an outdoor fire feature, and a dedicated area for a hot tub retreat. Layered perimeter plantings provide privacy and seasonal interest while softening the structure and anchoring it into the landscape.
